Station Break

Miscellaneous

I’m not gonna lie to you. I got nothing today. I spent the weekend carousing in Glasgow and far from my beloved Internet. For all I knew, the strike was over. (It wasn’t.) Now, the good news is that I spent much of the time drunk and plotting ways to improve this site (the answer came after five vodka tonics: more Aaron Spelling!). The downside is that I watched absolutely no television, unless you consider the first six episodes of Beverly Hills 90210 television, and I don’t. I consider it late 80’s cultural anthropology.

So I’d like to hear from you, instead. Which were your favorite shows last week? What were the best lines? And if you were on your sixth vodka, what changes would you make to the site? Anything you’d like to see more of?

Except for the Spelling, of course. You’re getting more of that no matter what.

The mid-point round-up on ANTM. One of the models actually runs into a glass door. And even better, eight emaciated girls examine the door and point out, in minute detail, the outline of her eye and nose on the glass. Hands down, best bit of TV all week.

I’m thinking you need an Aaron Spelling bitch-off. With a poll.

Is it wrong that I watched like, nothing last week because Pushing Daisies was not on in favor of Country music and I have no other shows? (I have decided I am no longer counting Heroes amongst my shows, even with evil Sark. Still have a crush on Jack Coleman, though).

I have been watching lots & lots of Project Runway reruns on Bravo.

By my sixth vodka I’m still remarkably coherent, but to stay topical I’d probably want philosophical analysis of alcohol on television. Or, you know, tv-based drinking games.

OK, I think the commenter above me has officially won. You can’t get better TV than that.

I watched My Boy Jack at the weekend, a moving tale about a man (Kipling, actually) losing his son to war, which was beautifully done, except guess (you’ll totally never guess) who they cast as the poor, mourning mother?

Kim Cattrall! WTF? It was totally the most jarring casting I’ve ever seen. To give her her dues, she was quite good, but honestly, she could have been utterly brilliant and I still would have expected her to crack out a vibrator at any moment…

Last week was poor tv wise. Pushing Daisies wasn’t on. Heroes is still not thrilling me. The one show I won’t miss is The Long Way Down, the Ewan McGregor travel docu-thing. I loves him. Oh, and Ugly Betty was pretty funny too.

Ugly Betty was funny, and 30 Rock was freaking brilliant. I’ve been watching Aliens in America, which is pretty good, but last week’s episode was prety weak.

I can’t remember a great line, but I have two great sight gags from last week:

    - Alec Baldwin’s hair on 30 Rock
    - Dwight retrieving a blow-dart gun from the toilet tank of the men’s room on The Office.

If I were on my sixth vodka tonic, I would probably try to adjust the layout and totally break the site. So, er, I second the vote for an Aaron Spelling bitch-off!
