I’ve been very moderately good this year, so I don’t think I’m out of line asking for a few gifts this Christmas. We’ll skip that whole lap-sitting thing, cause I’m old enough that it would make at least one of us feel like a pervert, but I’m hoping you’ll still take my wishes into consideration when planning gifts this year. They require very little production, also, so you won’t be breaking any elf welfare laws. Just drop a few hints into the right stockings.
1. Save Battlestar Galactica. With the writers’ strike showing signs of lasting well into 2008, I’m getting a bit worried about Starbuck, to tell you the truth. We need a season 4. I’m sure you and Mrs. Claus are fans, so you’d be doing everyone a favor.
2. Whatever it takes, please do not let Christian win Project Runway. It’s for the benefit of mankind, really. If he wins, his ego will expand to such proportions that he’ll run the risk of exploding and taking out an entire city block.
3. Tell us what that freaking island actually is. I gave up on Lost for the latter part of season 2 and the first half of season 3, but then it pulled me back in again. The writers started providing some answers and there seemed to be a grand plan, after all. Now that my faith is restored, we only get eight episodes in 2008? Dammit. We’re never really going to find out, are we?
4. Six words: Season 3 of Friday Night Lights.
5. Could we have a legitimately talented top 10 on American Idol? No Sanjaya, no Ryan Starr, no Jasmine Trias. And though I am horrified that I remember those names, and will make a token effort not to watch in January, I know there is no help for me. Sure, American Idol may eventually be viewed as the kindling to the fire that destroyed civilization as we know it, but that doesn’t mean it’s not good TV. I do plan on drinking heavily through each episode, if that helps your opinion of me.
6. Have Betty lose the braces. We get it already; she’s Ugly Betty. But it’s been two years now. It’s called character development. It’s not like I’m asking you to wax her eyebrows or anything.
7. Kill Owen on Torchwood. I don’t care how; I don’t care why. Just do it.
8. Can I have a musical episode of The Office, please? I know it goes against the whole faux-realism thing they’ve got going on, but it would be worth it. You know it would. They can always use the framework of a Dunder-Mifflin talent show to pull it off. Imagine Dwight singing “My Second Life Is Nothing Without You” to Angela, or Jan belting out “If I Didn’t Have Self-Esteem Issues, I Wouldn’t Have You”. It would be an instant classic.
9. Give Joss Whedon his own channel.
10. Make Ashes to Ashes even half as good as Life On Mars, and I’ll be there every week with bells on. Literally. It’s a ritual I have for really good TV. Don’t ask.
11. Get those Deadwood movies into production. I know the sets are struck and David Milch has moved on to his next foul-mouthed and thoroughly incomprehensible production, but a girl’s gotta dream. It could be my very own Christmas miracle.
12. Give every member of the AMPTP nothing but a lump of coal in their stockings. For good measure, could you see about having their president and chief negotiator Nick Counter reenact A Christmas Carol? Giving that man a conscience might be the best Christmas present ever.
What about you? What’s on your holiday list this year?

Yes to number 9!!! (and 1, and 6, and 10)
I want the strike to end and all my shows to come back. And I want a Veronica Mars film (straight to DVD if need be) to tie up loose ends while doing the characters justice.

Oh, a Veronica Mars film would be awesome, even if it does feel like the “bargaining” stage of the grief process.

Um yes, possibly…or maybe I am already at denial. But I have been rewatching my boxsets and it is so good and it deserves a proper send off…I will sulk until I get my way. Cos that always works.

The level of talent is why I can’t watch American Idol but always get sucked into So You Think You Can Dance - at least on SYTYCD the top 10 can all actually dance! Maybe not in the styles done on the show, and maybe not with a partner, but they’re all actually talented, which is such a relief.

I’m liking what I hear about Ashes to Ashes (mentioned in the BBC one winter pack here) so I really hope it is as good as Life on Mars.
Others? Well I agree with your list, but also I really want the BBCs adaptation of The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency to be good. Looking at the cast and crew it really ought to be, but…

Oh, DEADWOOD. (We’re just into our season 2 DVDs. Sigh.)
And I will take the unpopular opinion that I don’t want the writers’ strike to end. I mean, I want the writers to “win”, no question, but the strike gives me time to catch up on all the stuff I don’t have time for when new shows are on!
Like How I Met Your Mother and Friday Night Lights!

Rachel, I’ve never watched SYTYCD, but you’re almost selling me on it. Almost.
Dave, I’m really looking forward to to more Gene Hunt, though I hope he hasn’t reformed too much. A “nice” Gene Hunt just won’t work.

Hah, I don’t think he’ll have reformed much. I suspect Philip Glenister has waaay too much fun playing him just how he is.

Oh, yes to number 6! A few episodes ago, there was even a reference to how long they’d been on. It’s going to get ridiculous, because the teeth don’t look that wack and she’ll have had them on forever. But maybe it’s hard to schedule appointments when your boyfriend’s ex-girlfriend had cheated on him with your orthodontist.
I think it’s interesting that they’ve had Betty wear trendier clothes recently, and balanced it out by giving her the belt with the cell phone holster.

Thank you for the Owen comment, he just needs to disappear. And #9 would be a dream come true. Also a huge fan of a Veronica Mars movie, or even the whole FBI thing. Anything!!!
