The hard work is done, and I am thrilled to present the new, shiny Pop Vultures. We’re back, baby! If you’re seeing this in an RSS reader, pop on over and let us know what you think of the revised site.
Along with the new layout (and colors, and logo, and pretty much everything I could find to change), today marks a relaunch of some old standards. Yes, the tidbits have returned! Apparently, this is what happens when I’m no longer working 60 hour weeks as a teacher. I find this elusive thing called “time.” Who knew?
So what’s been going on lately in the world of television?
- I am terrified to even report this, but there is talk of — hold me — a Veronica Mars movie. Nothing has been greenlit, but the key players seem interested in doing it. Why are they even waiting on studio approval? Go the Dr. Horrible route! Every fan I know would happily donate $20 to the production fund and then pay iTunes whatever it demanded to see the series come to a more satisfying conclusion. I don’t want to get my hopes up, but today I may have found a new dream.
- Speaking of shows canceled too soon, Swingtown finds itself swinging on the brink of cancellation. Apparently, the combination of Grant Show’s pornstache and the show’s near flawless recreation of 70s suburbia has not brought in enough viewers to keep the network happy. There is a glimmer of hope, though, as CBS is shopping the show around in the hope of finding a partner deal similar to the one that saved Friday Night Lights.
- How about a show that’s actually guaranteed to be on the air for another season? The brilliant marketers at Dexter (you know, the same people who brought us a fountain of blood before the second season) are going viral again, this time giving us the Dexter ink blot test. Here is your chance to have your psychotic urges analyzed. Apparently, I’m 50% likely to begin slashing people to death. I should have known that last one wasn’t a rabid sheep.

That was pretty much my reaction, possibly with a bit more squealing.

I refuse to get my hopes up about VM. I just can’t take it.

Look, I realize Swingtown isn’t world-changing television, but I love it, and I’m sad that it’s likely not sticking around. There wasn’t an episode this week - I hope it’s not already being pulled. Where will I get my Molly Parker fix?

(That “Look” wasn’t directed at you, but at the network — somehow that came out sounding terribly snarky! Sorry!)

No worries, Rachel — I know you were looking directly at CBS. And while I agree that the show isn’t world-changing, it’s fun and sweet. I hope it gets another chance.
Carrie, I’m trying to forget I ever heard this news. It can only lead to disappointment.

I have never, ever seen Veronica Mars and am not sure I feel too inclined to do so. Is it really that good? Please convince me it should be next on my watch list!
The new site looks awesome - good stuff!
